The Birthday of the United States Navy

It was on this date in 1775 that the Continental Congress voted to fit out two sailing vessels and to send them out on a cruise of three months to intercept transports carrying munitions and stores to the British army in America.  That number quickly grew to fifty armed vessels of various types during the War of Independence.

We salute all active servicemen and veterans who have continued the proud tradition of the United States Navy begun 237 years ago.
