We Are Catholic!

Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles was right and acted as a good shepherd this past week when he terminated the public ministry of his predecessor.  Unfortunately, his action has opened old wounds and given the enemies of Christ and His church yet another opportunity to attack her.  But for those who know history and, with grace, understand the source of all evil, the episode is yet another reminder that there have always been, and will always be, tares among the wheat.  We know, too, that "the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."

To the world, these scandals seem perilous to the Church - a public relations nightmare, a crisis to be "managed."  But the Church walks on through history, bloody, wounded and suffering, but she walks also in the footsteps of her founder, confident in the promises of Christ.  Here is a joyful reminder of the awesome mystery of which we are blessed to be a part - the Body of Christ.
