MI GOP Senate Race Pits Tea Party Jobs Advocate Against 'Has Been' Defender of Hoffa and Status Quo

Right to Work advocate calls on Hoekstra to publicly disavow Hoffa threat to Tea Parties

By J. Gillman

Gary Glenn
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Gary Glenn, Midland, who has championed Right to Work legislation banning compulsory unionism, Wednesday said fellow GOP Senate candidate former Rep. Pete Hoekstra — because of his close relationship with Teamsters union president James Hoffa, Jr. — should publicly disavow Hoffa’s Labor Day comments in Detroit that some have interpreted as threatening violence against members of the Tea Party movement.

Glenn cited comments Monday in which Hoffa, referring to Tea Party activists, told a Labor Day rally, ”Let’s take these son of a bitches out.”

“Given Pete Hoekstra’s opposition to Right to Work and his cozy relationship and past endorsements by Hoffa and other Teamster union bosses, Pete needs to make clear to the public that his deafening silence does not indicate approval of his friend Jimmy Hoffa’s threats,” Glenn said.

Parental Rights Amendment Reaches 110 Co-Sponsors

Grassroots Movement Behind Effort to Ensure Parents' Rights to Raise their Children

From Christian Newswire

A Constitutional Amendment to protect the parent-child relationship introduced by U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Michigan, has reached 110 co-sponsors in the House.

"More and more members of Congress are recognizing the threat from government and foreign interference into the parent-child relationship," Hoekstra said. "I encourage my colleagues to support the initiative by co-sponsoring the Parents' Rights Amendment."

The Parental Rights Amendment (H.J.Res.42) would state explicitly in the U.S. Constitution that parents have a fundamental right to raise their children as they see fit, while protecting against abuse and neglect. Threats to the parent-child relationship include potential Senate ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child and the erosion of fundamental parental rights in our federal courts.

"Just about every member of Congress agrees with the legal principle that parents have the fundamental right to make decisions for the upbringing of their children," said Michael Farris, J.D., president of Parentalrights.org. "Because of international law and shifting judicial philosophies, the right is being steadily undermined. We now have 110 members of Congress with the foresight to say that we need to protect this long-standing right before the erosion goes too far. We appreciate the leadership of Pete Hoekstra and the 109 other members of Congress who believe that it is important to secure the rights of American families for generations to come."

Calling Evil By Its Proper Name

From
National Review Online
By Andy McCarthy

Bravo Pete Hoekstra for Defunding the Government's Jihad on "Jihad"

I've had a number of things to say about the intelligence community's attempted language purge, the effort to inculcate an aversion to calling jihadists jihadists, to bleach the Islam out of Islamic terror, and so on. (See, e.g., here, here and here if interested.) Well, I'm happy to report that Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI and ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee), whose been fighting the effort for some time (see Robert Spencer's post here), has seen his efforts bear fruit.

Rep. Hoekstra added an amendment to the Intelligence Bill that denies funding to this ill-conceived propaganda campaign (aptly referred to as "McCarthyism in reverse"). Despite the predictable opposition of Speaker Pelosi and the Democrat leadership, 55 Democrats joined Republicans to pass it by a whopping 249-180 margin.

CAIR, natch, is up in arms — you always know you're doing the right thing if all the right people are in a snit. [H/T, again, to Mr. Spencer & the invaluable Jihad Watch.]
