Prince William has issued a statement following a report’s findings into Martin Bashir's explosive 1995 Panorama interview with his mother, Princess Diana. The Duke of Cambridge said: “It is my view that the deceitful way the interview was obtained substantially influenced what my mother said.  On this very sad day for Her Majesty the Queen, the British people, the people of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Her Majesty's other realms, the Commonwealth, and much of the world, I can think of no more fitting and beautiful words than those Alfred, Lord Tennyson addressed to Queen Victoria in dedicating to Prince Albert his great narrative poem, Idylls of the King.

The Crown a lonely splendour.
