British Preacher Warned by Police for Quoting Bible on Homosexuality

From Catholic World News

A British Evangelical street preacher was warned by police that he could face arrest if he continued to cite Bible passages that suggest the immorality of homosexual acts, the Christian Legal Centre reports. Miguel Hayworth was "clearly told that reading the Bible and preaching can be offensive and that they could be arrested," the group charges, adding that Hayworth and his father, who was preaching with him "were subjected to abuse and intimidation."

GOP Tees Up Medicare Manifesto

From The Wall Street Journal
By Neil King Jr.

The Republican Party issued a new salvo in the health debate Monday with a "seniors' health care bill of rights" that opposed any moves to trim Medicare spending or limit end-of-life care to seniors.

Intended as a political shot at President Barack Obama, the Republican National Committee manifesto marks a remarkable turnaround for a party that had once fought to trim the health program for the elderly and disabled, which last year cost taxpayers over $330 billion.

The Republican stance also underscores how tough it will be for Mr. Obama to find politically palatable savings to pay for new coverage while reining in spiraling health-care costs.

The Republicans said they aimed to "protect Medicare and not cut it in the name of health-care reform," in a statement and an accompanying op-ed written by RNC Chairman Michael Steele and published in Monday's Washington Post.

The party also vowed to oppose any Democratic effort to ration care or to insert the government between seniors and their doctors.

Pepsi Cola Forms Gay Pride Organization - Boycott Pepsi Drinks, Frito-Lay, Quaker

From LifeSiteNews
By Thaddeus M. Baklinski

Soft drink giant PepsiCo is continuing its support and sponsorship of the homosexual agenda despite growing protest and a continuing boycott of Pepsi products that include Frito Lay chips, Tropicana orange juice, Gatorade and Quaker products.

The American Family Association (AFA) has revealed that according to a PepsiCo representative, Philene Frazar, PepsiCo is a founding member in establishing a homosexual activist group in Chicago called "Citywide Pride."

"Frazar, in a presentation during a 2009 homosexual advocacy conference, announced PepsiCo was instrumental in forming Chicago's 'Citywide Pride,'" said AFA president Tim Wildmon in a news bulletin. The Citywide Pride website says it "strives to educate and empower the LGBT workforce and their allies."

Citywide Pride events listed for 2009 include:
- Seminar on how gays can successfully adopt children
- Same-sex marriage tutorials
- "Recruitment and engagement" techniques training
- "Family Pride" days (this one particularly hosted by PepsiCo)

In addition, Frazer noted during the homosexual conference that PepsiCo regularly recruits and invites employees from smaller companies to attend a variety of gay pride parades with them, saying:

"It really is a true celebration of the entire community when PepsiCo steps out to be part of a parade. In most of these cities, we are giving out a sampling of all our product lines, which are as diverse as Tropicana juice, all the way to Frito-Lay chips. We also hand out cups and banners and whistles. It's really a true corporate presence once we hit the parade route."

The AFA encourages all concerned people to take action by stepping up the boycott and letting PepsiCo know their disapproval of their actions.

"We're asking people, number one, not to buy these products; and number two, and more importantly, to let Pepsi know that they're joining the boycott by going [online] and signing the boycott pledge," Wildmon said.

"Sign the Boycott PepsiCo Pledge," Wildmon enjoins. "After signing the pledge, please call Pepsi (914-253-2000 or 1-800-433-2652) and tell the company you will boycott its products until it stops promoting the homosexual agenda. If you will stay on the line, a live representative will take your call."

Another effective action the AFA advocates is to print the Boycott Pepsi petition and distribute it for signatures, including giving a copy to the manager of the grocery stores where concerned consumers shop.

Pepsi products include Pepsi Cola, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, Mug Root Beer, Frito-Lay chips and snacks (800-352-4477), Quaker Oats (800-367-6287), Tropicana (800-237-7799) and Gatorade (800-884-2867), Dole juices, and Aquafina bottled water.

Obama White House v. CIA; Panetta Threatened to Quit

It's getting awkward as the new constitutional officers of government discover that they are merely figureheads, reporting to Obama's commissars in the White House.

From ABC News
By Matthew Cole, Richard Esposito and Brian Ross

A "profanity-laced screaming match" at the White House involving CIA Director Leon Panetta, and the expected release today of another damning internal investigation, has administration officials worrying about the direction of its newly-appoint intelligence team, current and former senior intelligence officials tell ABC News.com.

Amid reports that Panetta had threatened to quit just seven months after taking over at the spy agency, other insiders tell ABCNews.com that senior White House staff members are already discussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials.

"You can expect a larger than normal turnover in the next year," a senior adviser to Obama on intelligence matters told ABCNews.com.

Bernie Madoff 'Dying' in North Carolina Prison

From the New York Post
By Rich Calder

Bernie Madoff had little to lose by confessing to masterminding the world's biggest Ponzi scheme -- he's dying of cancer, sources told The Post.

Madoff, who is serving 150 years at a North Carolina federal lockup after pleading guilty to swindling more than $65 billion, has been telling fellow inmates he does not have much longer to live.

"He's been taking about 20 pills a day for his cancer," said one inmate.

"He talks about it all the time. He's not doing very well."

There's been much speculation as to why Madoff took the entire fall for the scheme -- and rumors of his suffering from pancreatic cancer surfaced many months before he arrived at the Butner, NC, complex in June.

The prisoners did not confirm that's the form of cancer he's suffering.

His lawyer did not return messages yesterday but, when previously asked by The Post, would neither confirm nor deny his client has cancer. A lawyer for his wife, Ruth, also did not return messages.

Latest in Stimulus: 'Cash for Refrigerators'

From Business Week
By Matthew Boyle

A $300 million cash-for-clunkers-type federal program to boost sales of energy-efficient home appliances provides a glimmer of hope for beleaguered makers of washing machines and dishwashers, but it's probably not enough to lift companies such as Whirlpool (NYSE:WHR - News) and Electrolux out of the worst down cycle in the sector's history.

Beginning late this fall, the program authorizes rebates of $50 to $200 for purchases of high-efficiency household appliances. The money is part of the broader economic stimulus bill passed earlier this year. Program details will vary by state, and the Energy Dept. has set a deadline of Oct. 15 for states to file formal applications. The Energy D
ept. expects the bulk of the $300 million to be awarded by the end of November. (Unlike the clunkers auto program, consumers won't have to trade in their old appliances.)
