I Agree with Obama

Barack Obama to Prince Charles: Americans like you more than me

The president told the prince that the Royal Family was more popular in America than US politicians during a meeting in the Oval Office

The Prince of Wales was forced to offer some consoling words to President Barack Obama last night after the US president observed that the American public prefers British royals to their own politicians.

“I think it’s fair to say that the American people are quite fond of the royal family,” said Mr Obama as the pair posed for the cameras in the Oval Office, before adding: “They like them much better than they like their own politicians.”

“I don’t believe that,” the Prince shot back, reassuringly, before telling Mr Obama how much he had enjoyed returning to Mount Vernon, the plantation home of America’s first president, George Washington, which he first visited in 1970.

Unless Western powers show they care about human rights they will be exposed as hypocrites

This story, reported by an Israeli source, about the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia calling for the demolition of all churches in the Arabian peninsula, may at first sight seem like an old story. In fact it is not, it is merely that the Mufti has said exactly the same thing before now; presumably he has had to repeat himself as people were not paying attention the first time.

There are several very interesting things that one should bear in mind when considering the Grand Mufti’s latest pronouncement. Here are just a few of them.

The Great and Noble Patrick

Statue of St Patrick in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland
Apostle of Ireland, born at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton, in Scotland, in the year 387; died at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland, 17 March, 493.

He had for his parents Calphurnius and Conchessa. The former belonged to a Roman family of high rank and held the office of decurio in Gaul or Britain. Conchessa was a near relative of the great patron of Gaul, St. Martin of Tours. Kilpatrick still retains many memorials of Saint Patrick, and frequent pilgrimages continued far into the Middle Ages to perpetuate there the fame of his sanctity and miracles.

Pat Buchanan: Is the European Union Dying?

By Patrick J. Buchanan

As the European Coal and Steel Community of Jean Monnet evolved into the EU, we were told a "United States of Europe" was at hand, modeled on the USA. And other countries and continents will inevitably follow Europe's example.

There will be a North American Union of the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and a Latin America Union of the Mercosur trade partnership.

In an essay, "The E.U. Experiment Has Failed," Bruce Thornton of Hoover Institution makes the case that the verdict is in, the dream is dead, the EU is unraveling, One Europe is finished.
