A Reagan Forum with Dr. Charles Krauthammer

The first letter of mine to be published by a major newspaper was one I wrote in April 1986 to The Washington Post in response to a column entitled "The Pope and the Jews" by Charles Krauthammer.

I believe Krauthammer had unfairly maligned Pope John Paul II for not extending diplomatic recognition to the State of Israel.  The Vatican's policy was the correct one at the time, and the issues preventing recognition, like so many during that great pontificate, were successfully resolved by 1993.  However, since I wrote as a conservative Catholic criticizing a then neo-conservative journalist, the Post was probably delighted to air a family dispute.  Nevertheless, this Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist, political commentator, and physician is unparalleled in the wisdom, clarity and insight he brings to political analysis.  He spoke at the Reagan Library yesterday.

An Interview with Marco Rubio

Florida Senator Marco Rubio was the featured speaker at a Reagan Forum on August 23rd, attended by Mrs. Reagan.  It is an extraordinarily eloquent and moving address and we will be posting video of the entire speech tomorrow.  Please stop back to see why Senator Rubio is on every presidential candidate's "short list" for Vice President and why so much national attention is focused on this new "great communicator."

The following is an interview conducted during the Senator's visit to the Reagan Library.

Reagan Library Forum with Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

Donald Rumsfeld discussed his new memoir, Known and Unknown, at the Reagan Library on Wednesday, March 16. Speaking about 9-11, the former Secretary of Defense stated, "9-11 did not only stop the Department of Defense from transforming, but pushed us even harder." And when asked what one sentence should be used to describe his life, Secretary Rumsfeld replied, "He served."

President Reagan's News Conference of 1/29/81

The Reagan Foundation posted today a video of one of President Reagan's first news conferences, held just nine days after taking office. Aside from the nostalgia it evokes for the days when Presidents actually submitted themselves to vigorous questioning from the nation's media, it shows a President at the vortex of restoration and recovery after a bungling, incompetent, and damaging administration - a great model for our next President.
